Cookie Stenciling Guide: Easy Designs for Spring Treats

spring launch blog cover

The Spring Rush Is Here (And We’ve Got You Covered)

Spring is one of the busiest seasons of the year for bakers. Between Easter, Mother’s Day, Teacher Appreciation, Nurse Appreciation, and Graduation, orders stack up quickly, and the turnaround time between each holiday is tight.

We know how overwhelming that can feel, especially coming off a major holiday like Easter and heading straight into another wave of demand. That’s why having easy, efficient options is so important this time of year.

Our newest spring products were designed with that in mind—to help you save time, simplify your process, and still offer beautiful, high-quality treats your customers will love. From quick decorating solutions like stencils to ready-to-go packaging, bundles, and display options, everything is created to make your workflow easier so you can stay ahead without stress.

Think of this season as the baker’s marathon, and we’re here to help you get through it with simple, smart solutions.

Easy, Consistent Designs with Stencils

We added over 20 new stencil designs for Mother’s Day, Teacher Appreciation, and Graduation—along with their matching cookie cutters—so you can create cohesive, professional-looking cookies with ease. Everything is available individually or as a set, so you can work however you prefer.

We also introduced a range of beautiful text-based stencil designs, making it easier than ever to add clean, polished wording to your cookies without the time commitment of hand lettering. No projectors, no free handing, just consistent results every time.

And for an even simpler option, we added PYO stencils that pair perfectly with our everyday PYO toppers and our PYO palettes. It’s an easy way to offer an interactive cookie that still looks intentional and elevated, without adding extra work to your process.

Below, we’ve outlined exactly how we stencil our cookies so you can get perfect results every time.

1. Set Up Your Stencil Frame

We use the Sweet Stencil Holder Plus with the frame extender for best results. If you’re new to this system, be sure to check out the tutorial video on their website before your first use, it will walk you through setup and help you get the cleanest application possible.

Start by taping your stencil to a frame extender if needed. If your cookies are thicker (around 3/8" dough and closer to 1/2" once iced), the extra height from an XL stencil holder or extender will help you get a clean, even application.

2. Use the Right Icing Consistency

Your icing should be a bit thicker than toothpaste, but not as thick as what you’d use for florals. This consistency helps prevent bleeding while still allowing for a smooth scrape. Load it into one of our tipless piping bags for easy control and application.

Note: The pink blocks shown in this tutorial are 3D printed “practice cookies” we use to test our stencils. They’re perfect for practicing and making sure your icing is the right consistency before working on real cookies. Once you’re done, simply wipe off the icing, wash them just like you would a cookie cutter, let them air dry, and they’re ready to use again and again.

Pro Tip: Perfect Placement Every Time

Place your cookie on top of a piece of white paper and trace the outline. Then slide that paper under the clear sheet of your stencil holder. This creates a guide so you can position each cookie perfectly, even when the stencil has icing on it and visibility is low. It’s a huge time saver when batching.

3. Apply Icing to the Stencil

Add a small amount of icing to the top of your stencil. Hold your scraper at a slight angle and use a light, steady, slow motion to pull the icing across the design.

4. Clean Your Scraper Between Passes

After each swipe, clean your scraper before going back over the stencil. This keeps your lines crisp and prevents excess icing from building up.

5. Lift Carefully for Clean Results

Once your design is filled, lift the stencil straight up without shifting. This helps maintain sharp edges and prevents smudging.

Cleaning Your Stencil

After use, rinse your stencil under warm water and place it somewhere like a dish rack to dry. Keeping your stencils clean will help maintain crisp designs every time.

6. Done!

Your design is ready to go! After you let it dry sufficiently (overnight for best results) your cookies are ready to package! Sit back, grab one of your test cookies to snack on, and enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Easy Packaging That Looks Like a Full Gift

You don’t need complicated packaging to make your treats feel elevated. With the right setup, even a simple cookie can look like a complete, thoughtful gift.

Our bakery boxes and treat boxes are designed to do exactly that: help you create polished, gift-ready options without adding extra time to your workflow.

Whether you’re packaging:

  • Single cookies
  • Small sets
  • Assorted treats like brownies, cake pucks, or chocolate covered Oreos

you can quickly turn them into something that feels intentional and market-ready.

Add a few simple touches like:

…and you’ve instantly upgraded your product without adding extra labor.

This is especially helpful during the spring rush, when customers are looking for grab-and-go gifts for Mother’s Day, teachers, nurses, and graduates. The easier you make it for them, the faster your products will sell.

Keep it simple, keep it cohesive, and let your packaging do the heavy lifting.

Bundles That Take the Guesswork Out

If you’ve ever spent way too long trying to match backers, bags, and tags, you’re not alone. That’s exactly why we created our bundles.

Our bundles are designed to make your life easier by putting everything you need in one place. No second guessing sizes, no digging through multiple categories, and no worrying if everything will work together.

Each bundle is curated to include:

  • Coordinated backers
  • Properly sized bags
  • Matching tags
  • Optional add-ons to complete the look

Everything is designed to pair perfectly, so you can assemble quickly and confidently.

We also offer bouquet box bundles, which make it incredibly easy to create those eye-catching cookie bouquets without the extra planning. These are perfect for holidays like Mother’s Day, Teacher Appreciation, and Graduation; high-impact sets that feel premium but are still simple to put together.

Bundles are a huge time-saver during prep. Instead of piecing together supplies for every set, you can streamline your workflow and focus on decorating and fulfilling orders.

And as a bonus, bundles are built with value in mind, so you’re saving money while saving time.
