Everyday Cookie Packaging Guide
The Baker’s Secret Weapon: Everyday Cookie Packaging
If you’ve been decorating cookies for a while, you probably know the truth: the prettiest seasonal packaging gets all the attention, but the real heroes of your supply stash are the everyday pieces you can reach for anytime.
Holiday packaging is fun, but it’s also very specific. Once Valentine’s Day or Easter passes, those designs go right back into storage. Everyday packaging, on the other hand, is what carries your business through custom orders, market prep, and those surprise weeks when orders suddenly double.
Because let’s be honest, even the most organized bakers run into moments where things don’t go exactly according to plan. Sometimes a set sells out faster than expected. Sometimes a customer adds to their order two days before pickup. And sometimes shipping timelines just don’t line up with what you need.
That’s where neutral packaging really shines.
Simple patterns like gingham and stripes, paired with coordinating bows and tags, give you the flexibility to package almost anything. A neutral tan backer might not scream “holiday” on its own, but add a festive tag or a pop of color with a bow, and suddenly it works perfectly for the season. Having versatile packaging on hand means you can pivot quickly without scrambling for supplies.
To make everyday packaging easier to use, I created three bundles designed to pair the right backers, bags, boxes, and stretch loops together so everything fits cleanly and looks polished. In this guide, we’ll walk through the different backer sizes, how many cookies each works best for, and how neutral packaging can help you handle everything from custom orders to last-minute holiday sets. I’ve also included a few free downloads along the way to help make your packaging even easier.
Choosing the Right Cookie Backer Size
One of the easiest ways to make cookie packaging look polished and professional is simply choosing the right size backer. When the cookie fits comfortably on the board with a little breathing room around the edges, the whole presentation immediately looks cleaner and more intentional.
To make things easier, I created three bundles that pair the correct backers, bags, boxes, and stretch loops together so everything works seamlessly. Each size works best for slightly different types of cookies, so understanding how they’re typically used can help you decide which ones to keep stocked in your packaging stash.
Everyday Square Backer Bundle
Everyday 5×8 Backer Bundle
Everyday Tall Backer Bundle
1. Tall Backers (Perfect for Mini Sets)
Our tall backers are designed with mini cookie sets in mind. These work best with about 4–6 mini cookies, depending on the overall shape and size of the cookies. Minis that are around 2 inches wide tend to fit the cleanest, giving the set enough spacing so everything looks balanced, but the cookies don't move around too much in the packaging.
These backers also work beautifully for tall, skinny cookies. Florals like tulips or roses are a great example, packaging one of these on a tall backer creates a really unique single-cookie presentation that feels elegant.
This bundle pairs the tall backers with coordinating bags, boxes, and 12-inch stretch loops, which provide the right amount of tension to keep your box secure without warping. Alternatively, using one of our pre-tied bows at the top of your bagged cookies makes for a clean presentation when you don't want or need to use a clear box. If you want to box your cookies, use our 3" x 12" clear bags. If you want to tie a bow to the top, use our 3" x 13" clear bags.
2. Large 5" x 8" (The Most Versatile Option)
If you’re looking for one packaging size that can do a little bit of everything, the 5×8 backer bundle is probably the most versatile.
These backers measure 4.875″ × 7.875″ and fit perfectly inside our 5×8 clear boxes, which creates a super clean presentation.
There are a lot of ways to use this size:
- Two full-sized cookies
- One full-sized cookie + a gift card
- One full-sized cookie + 3–4 minis
- 3–4 minis + a gift card
Because this size is so versatile, it’s a great one to keep on hand. It works beautifully for all kinds of custom orders, but it also makes a fantastic add-on for market tables. For example, pairing a single full-sized cookie with a $5 coffee gift card instantly increases the perceived value and turns a simple cookie into a complete gift.
This bundle pairs with our 5.25″ × 10.5″ bags, which leave enough extra height to comfortably accommodate cookies that are about ⅜ inch thick. Like the tall backers, these also use 12-inch stretch loops.
3. Square Backers (Great for Singles & Party Favors)
Our square backers measure 4.375″ × 4.375″ and fit beautifully inside our 4.5″ clear boxes. This size creates a compact, gift-ready presentation that works especially well for party favors or individual cookie gifts.
These backers work best for:
- One full-sized cookie
- 3–4 mini cookies, depending on shape
They’re paired with our 5″ × 7″ clear bags, and this bundle uses the 10-inch or 12-inch stretch loops, which provide the right fit for this slightly smaller packaging setup.
4. Small Backers (Simple Singles)
Our final size is the 3.625″ × 4.5″ backer, which pairs with our 4″ × 6″ or 4″ × 7″ clear bags. These are designed as a lightweight packaging option for single cookies.
A cookie around 3–3.25 inches wide fits most comfortably on this size backer. You can also use it to package two mini cookies, depending on their shapes.
Since we don’t offer boxes for this size, they’re perfect for quick grab-and-go cookies, thank-you treats, or add-ons to larger orders. A coordinating bow at the top keeps the presentation clean and polished while still being theme-neutral.
Customizing Your Packaging with Everyday Tags
One of the easiest ways to personalize everyday packaging is with a simple tag.
To make this easy, I designed two neutral, rustic-style bakery tags that work beautifully with earth tones and natural color palettes. They pair nicely with kraft boxes, gingham backers, striped patterns, and most neutral bows, which makes them incredibly versatile for everyday orders.
But the best part is that you can customize them however you like.
I’ve included a Canva template so you can easily edit the tags to match your brand. You can add your business name, drop in your logo, adjust the colors, or change the wording entirely. The goal is to give you a flexible design that works for your brand while still keeping the clean, neutral look that works across many different orders.
If you like the tags exactly as they are, I’ve also included a print-ready sheet that you can download and use right away.
For printing, you have a couple of great options. Many bakers choose to have their tags printed at a local print shop or office supply store, which can give you a very crisp, professional finish. If you prefer printing at home, using a quality cardstock works very well too.
Standard printer paper isn’t recommended for tags. Because the tags are attached to the packaging, the hole will often tear when the tag is secured, or the paper can wrinkle from the tension.
Each tag measures 2″ × 2″, which means you can fit 20 tags on a standard 8.5″ × 11″ sheet of paper when printing. This makes it easy to estimate how many sheets you’ll need when placing a print order or loading cardstock into your home printer.
To attach your tags, you can simply loop them onto your packaging using our clear elastics, which are an optional add-on for all of our backer bundles. These elastics make it quick and easy to secure tags without needing to tie twine or ribbon, and they're practically invisible when attached.
Whether you customize the template with your own branding or use the original designs, these tags are a simple way to elevate everyday packaging while keeping it flexible enough to work for almost any order.
Simple Branding with Custom Box Stickers
Sometimes the cleanest packaging solution is also the simplest. Our 4″ × 4″ mini pizza boxes are one of the most versatile options to keep on hand for everyday cookies and custom orders. They’re sturdy, stack beautifully for transport, and work perfectly for situations where you need to package cookies individually but there isn’t really a themed box that fits the occasion.
Think about something like a housewarming party favor. A customer might want a single cookie for each guest, but there isn’t exactly a small “housewarming cookie box” design out there. A simple white box paired with a custom sticker instantly solves that problem.
To make this easy, I created a 3″ round sticker template that’s fully customizable. You can change the design completely or simply add your business name or logo and print. It’s a quick way to turn a plain box into something that feels intentional and branded.
For example, you could open the template in Canva, write “Thank You” in a soft script font like Brittany, add your bakery name underneath, and print. Place the sticker on the lid of the pizza box, add a 10″ or 12″ stretch loop, and suddenly you have a clean, polished presentation that looks fully customized, even though it only took a few minutes to put together.
It’s a small detail, but it makes a big impact. Every guest who takes home a cookie now also takes home your brand name.
If you want to take it a step further, you can add your website or social media handle in a small font that doesn’t distract from the main message. Now your packaging doubles as a quiet little marketing tool, keeping your bakery in the back of people’s minds the next time they need cookies for a celebration or special event.
Printing Your Stickers
When it comes to printing the stickers themselves, you have a few options depending on your budget and how many you need.
One simple option is using a local print service like Staples, which offers print-on-demand sticker sheets. This can be a great middle ground if you want good print quality without committing to a large quantity.
Another option is ordering from a custom sticker or label company. These companies often offer premium upgrades like matte finishes, gloss coatings, or even foil accents. The tradeoff is that they usually require much higher minimum orders and cost more overall. For example, companies like Uline often require ordering a full roll of 1,000 stickers, which can make sense if you know you’ll use them but may not be practical for everyone. Other popular options for custom roll labels include Labelin and Sticker Giant, which offer a variety of materials and finishes. If you’re considering roll labels, price comparing on Google is your best friend.
Canva also offers sticker printing services, which makes the process very simple since you can design and print in one place. However, it tends to be a bit more expensive compared to options like Staples.
One of the most cost-effective options is using Avery or Uline printable sticker sheets designed for 3″ round labels. You can print these at home, which keeps costs down significantly. The tradeoff is that the final quality will depend on your printer, so results can vary.
If you print at home, make sure you purchase the correct label type for your printer. Inkjet labels don’t perform well in laser printers, and laser labels won’t print correctly on inkjet machines.
Another option some bakers love is using a thermal printer setup like MUNBYN. These printers work best for black-and-white or limited color designs and are great if you’re producing labels regularly and want a fast, efficient workflow.
These custom stickers don’t have to stay 3″ round, either. There are endless possibilities when it comes to resizing and adapting the design to fit your needs. You can easily adjust the template to create larger or smaller stickers depending on your packaging. They also work beautifully on a variety of different box sizes, including our brand new treat boxes.
Everyday Cookie Boxes Worth Keeping on Hand
While backers and small boxes are perfect for singles and small sets, many cookiers rely on bakery boxes for their larger custom orders. In fact, bakery boxes are probably the most commonly used packaging for decorated cookie sets. They’re simple, sturdy, and give you plenty of space to arrange cookies beautifully.
Our large white bakery boxes are a great everyday option to keep stocked in your packaging stash. They have a clean, classic look that works for nearly any occasion, and they can easily be dressed up with twine, ribbon, stickers, 16" stretch loops and tags when you want to add a little extra personality. You can even add one of our pre-tied bows, simply slide out the twist tie and glue the bow onto your bakery box for a boutique finish.
Depending on the size and shape of your cookies, these boxes typically hold 12–18 custom cookies depending on their overall shape and size. That makes them perfect for so many of the custom orders that cookiers fulfill throughout the year.
And they’re not just for cookies. These boxes are also great for packaging cake pops, cake pucks, chocolate-covered Oreos, dipped pretzel rods, Rice Krispy treats, and other small bakery items. No matter what treats you’re making, a plain white bakery box is a must-have to keep on hand in your bakery.
DIY Gable Boxes
Every baker experiences slower periods throughout the year where cookie orders naturally dip a bit. One of the easiest ways to bring in extra sales during those times is by offering a DIY cookie kit pre-order.
From a customer’s perspective, DIY kits have a high perceived value. They feel like a fun activity, a gift, and a treat all in one. But for you as the baker, they require significantly less work compared to decorating full custom sets.
Even when there aren’t major cookie-heavy holidays happening, people still have plenty of reasons to want a fun activity. Birthday parties, backyard BBQs, summer gatherings, and end-of-school-year celebrations are all perfect opportunities for DIY kits. Teachers especially are always looking for simple activities during those last few days of school when schedules are winding down.
Someone scrolling through your page might not be planning to order decorated cookies, but they might see a DIY kit and think, “That would be perfect for the kids next week when we’re having a cookout!”
That’s where our Everyday Cookie Kit Instructions Gable Boxes come in.
These boxes are perfect for packaging your Decorate Your Own Cookie Activity Kits any time of the year. The instructions are printed directly on the box, so you don’t need to include extra instruction cards—just add your cookies and decorating supplies and the kit is ready to go.
Our gable boxes can fit up to 12 full-sized (3″–4″) cookies, along with several small bags of icing and sprinkles. Just add your undecorated cookies, icing colors, sprinkles, and maybe a few edible markers, and you have a complete DIY activity kit ready for customers to take home and enjoy.
Versatile Pouches for Simple Packaging
Depending on where you live, there may be seasonal holidays or events that aren’t as popular in other cities, states, or countries. Maybe your town celebrates something local, or your city’s professional sports team just made the playoffs and you want to offer themed cookies at your next market, but finding packaging that matches the theme is nearly impossible. Or maybe you simply run a storefront bakery and need neutral packaging that works day in and day out for everyday cookie sales.
Our everyday stand-up pouches are excellent in all of these situations.
They feature a clear window that shows off your treats while still giving you the flexibility of neutral packaging that can work for almost any occasion. Because the design is simple and clean, you can easily customize them with a sticker to match whatever theme you’re working with.
We offer two sizes:
Standard stand-up pouches, which fit about 12 mini cookies or a couple of full-sized cookies, depending on the shapes.
Small stand-up pouches, which comfortably hold around 5 mini cookies.
All of our pouches feature a resealable zipper, and they can also be heat sealed for a fully closed package. Simply seal the bag above the tear notch, and your treats will stay fresh without needing to individually bag each cookie first.
These pouches aren’t just great for cookies, either. They’re fantastic for a variety of small bakery treats that do well at markets and storefronts. Things like candied popcorn, chocolate-covered pretzels, pancake mixes, mini biscotti, brownie bites, mini marshmallows, caramel candies, puppy chow, snack mixes, or small fudge pieces all work beautifully in stand-up pouches.
They’re an incredibly flexible packaging option that lets you showcase your treats while keeping things simple and ready for customers to grab and go.

At the end of the day, everyday packaging is really about flexibility. Having a few reliable packaging options on hand, whether that’s boxes, backers, pouches, or simple tags, makes it much easier to handle whatever orders, markets, or events come your way.
Neutral packaging gives you a foundation that works year-round. When you want to make something seasonal or event-specific, you can easily add a themed tag, topper, or sticker without needing entirely new packaging for every occasion. That kind of versatility can save a lot of time (and a lot of stress) when things suddenly get busy.
The goal with these bundles and templates was to make packaging simpler, more adaptable, and easier to customize for everyday baking. Whether you’re preparing cookies for a market table, fulfilling custom orders, or putting together party favors or DIY kits, having a few dependable packaging staples on hand can make the entire process smoother.
Sometimes the best packaging solutions are also the simplest; clean designs, neutral colors, and just enough customization to make each order feel thoughtful and complete.
